Step 2: Paying for College
A key component in college planning is determining how to pay for college. Fortunately, there are many ways to make college affordable. In January of the student's senior year, it is imperative to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Completing this application will determine your eligibility of grants and/or scholarships.
Many parents find these sites to be the most helpful for financial planning:

There are hundreds more scholarship web-sites to peruse. Please feel free to contact me should you need a more extensive listing. Also, once you have registered for college, keep direct dialogue with the financial aid office to determine additional elgibility.
FAFSA DAY is February 22nd, 2014 from 9a.m. to 12 noon. Please bring your 2013 federal tax returns (for students and parents), FAFSA PINs (four digit ID numbers for student and parent (visit: pin.ed.gov), and 2014-2015 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet (visit: fafsa.gov).
For additional information visit CFNC.org/FAFSAday or call 866-866-CFNC
FAFSA Phone-In--Students and families who are completing the FAFSA themselves and have just a few questions may want to take advantage of the free FAFSA Phone-In service by calling 866-866-CFNC each Tuesday in February from 5-8 pm.
